Welcome

Welcome message

The use of a laser beam propagating in free space is gaining popularity for large capacity communications. Lately, discussions on laser communications have begun about the operation, standardization and regulatory aspects as well as its technical developments.

The International Conference on Space Optical Systems and Applications (ICSOS) is a forum for the exchange of information related to free-space optical systems. The domain of its applications includes terrestrial, near-Earth and deep space. ICSOS began in Asia in 2009, and then was held in the USA in 2011 and Europe in 2012, respectively.

In 2014, the location returns to Asia and ICSOS 2014 will be held in Kobe City, which has long been a major cosmopolitan port city of West Japan. It is located between the tranquil inland sea and green of mountains, rich in old and historical as well as advanced modern and urban townscape.

I do look forward to you reaping the most benefits from this opportunity here in Kobe.

Toshio Kosuge
General Chairperson of ICSOS 2014 Organizing Committee
